Essential Oils For the Laundry

WASHING MACHINE
  • Lemon essential oil can be rubbed on stains prior to washing and to also help remove greasy/oily smells.
  • Add eucalyptus or lavender essential oil with some white vinegar to the washing machine rinse cycle to help soften towels and also kill dust mites from bedding.
  • Add tea tree oil to the laundry detergent when washing cloth diapers. This has been shown to have extra disinfectant qualities.

It's recommended to put the essential oils directly in the wash as they may leave a residue if added to the laundry powder compartment.

CLOTHES DRYER
  • Put a couple of drop of essential oil on a dish cloth or face washer and place it in the clothes dryer to make both the linen & the house smell fresher. Home made dryer sheets! It's especially good for when you have accidentally left clothes in the dryer when they are damp and they start to smell a bit funny. Lavender or lemon are good options but you could use any oils.
  • Lavender or calming essential oil can be used this way to scent bed linen and promote a restful nights sleep.

IRONING

  • Use essential oil in a hydrosol spray with water and spray clothing before ironing. You could also use them in the water compartment of your iron but they may leave a residue.
